Converting HTML to RTF/MSWord

I’ve just finished working on a PHP mailer, it sends HTML emails with embedded images (I cant take credit for the actual mailer, just the interface to our application)
I now have a problem that not everyone can view HTML emails so all our formatting is lost and the images just arrive as attachments and lose all meening.
What I need is a way of generating a word document with the images embedded and sending that as an attachment to the email.
can anyone help?
