@ooliver186Jan 25.2013 — Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Pay-Per-Click (PPC) are two key ways to drive qualified traffic to your Web site.. SEO and PPC differ in the following ways:

- Process

SEO works by optimizing the structure and content of a Web page for a set of determined keywords so that it is viewed as reputable and valuable by the search engines. SEO also relies on maximizing the quality and quantity of incoming links to your site. For a more detailed explanation of how SEO works you can learn more with our SEO Made Simple series.

PPC (specifically Google AdWords) works by establishing a set of keywords and then building an ad using optimizing for those keywords that links back to your site.

- Placement on Page

When you utilize SEO the results of your efforts will appear in the natural or organic search results.

PPC ads appear on the side of a search engine results page and at the top if there are a high number of competitors targeting the same keywords.

SEO is short for search engine optimization. If you’re wondering exactly what SEO is, visit our “What Is SEO” tab on the top of this page. In short, SEO is the process of optimizing a website to rank better in search engine results. This includes making changes to coding, on page content, and building links from other websites to your small business’ website.

PPC

PPC is short for pay per click. PPC typically refers to Google’s Adwords advertising platform. Do a quick search for anything on Google and you will see “Sponsored” or “Paid” listings either on the top of the screen or on the right column.

@vincewicksJan 25.2013 — SEO is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine's "natural" or un-paid ("organic") search results.

PPC is an Internet advertising model used to direct traffic to websites, where advertisers pay the publisher (typically a website owner) when the ad is clicked. With search engines, advertisers typically bid on keyword phrases relevant to their target market. Content sites commonly charge a fixed price per click rather than use a bidding system. PPC "display" advertisements, also known as "banner" ads, are shown on web sites or search engine results with related content that have agreed to show ads.
