search method?

hey, i wuz just workin on a simple search script i im developing for a website im working on. i’ve been using the “for ()” method, but recently stumbled upon a method that i have never heard of called “search()” (i know this is a mthod b/c dreamweaver colored it as a method would be colored). could some1 plz tell me what this method does and how to use it?
