location.replace, History folder

Hi! I would like to use location.replace() – OR something else -to clear the history folder of a certain page. I want the page to be removed from the folder “on load”, i.e. NOt when one eventually leaves the page. This should be possible since I can manually remove the page from the history folder while I’m still visiting it. Can I do this with location.replace() or with something else? I could write:

location.replace(thisURL);

But then I will get a loop! Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there any other means to achieve this? I am very grateful for comments. /Magnus

@96turnerriFeb 12.2004 — one way would be to open up a new window, using copyhistory=no as an attribute

@ioppoiauthorFeb 12.2004 — Thank you very much 96 for your time and suggestion. I tried to open a new window like that, but it seems that the URL in windows.open("URL","","copyhistory=no") is included in the history list even if the new window has no further history. I am using IE6. Do you have any more ideas? I wish I could use location.replace with the new window somehow as target, leaving the old window "un-redirected", but I guess that's not possible. Thanks again!

@rhsundergroundFeb 12.2004 — how does this magical 'copyhistory=no' work?

@96turnerriFeb 12.2004 — what about a popup without the toolbar? so toolbar=no therfore the only way they can go back is by right clicking

@ioppoiauthorFeb 12.2004 — Thanks but that won't do. Sorry. Maybe if I use location.replace(SlowUrl) and if SlowUrl has "infinite" download time, so that the previous page will be kept in the window. But I guess that would require server-side programming or something else. Also I'm not sure if the history folder is cleared directly or after complete download. Kind regards /Magnus

@96turnerriFeb 12.2004 — no because if it has infinite download time, it will just timeout at whateva setting the user has it on
