32 or 16

Hi, i have always used 16px X 16px images for favicons but i have seen a lot of sites lately (google) using 32px X 32px

What is the correct size to use, are there pros and cons to both sizes, thanks in advance…

@HostTedAug 24.2012 — Makes no odds these days you can use either and even 48, as well as which they don't have to be called favicon nor be .ico.

However there are bound to be places that use the root favicon.ico for things to pull said icon image to places for use/display so best to add that also so it's there in the files at least IMHO

@aj_nscAug 24.2012 — Your .ico file can actually be an icon library that has several icons in it. I use a tool call ICOBundle - http://www.telegraphics.com.au/sw/info/icobundle.html
