An example of a variable used in a function – is this correct?

Hello,

This very simple function, and it’s call, doesn’t do anything useful. I wrote it to ask this question. Will the “one” variable below successfully give the button and the getElementById() function their id’s when written this way? Does this adhere to html rules?
tomorrow = [];
tomorrow[1] = ‘”astringwithquotes”‘;

function place(one)
{
document.getElementById(one);
<button id = one>Click Here</button>
}
place(tomorrow[1]);
