I want have possibility to host let say two/three different websites on same server (a not complicated javascript css websites? holiday+myweb+myfrend website -is it possible?

it doesnt have to be free as I am aware of adds etc so I want plain web with my stuff only but because its just for me getting to know all these webmastering I want to keep it let say under 10-15euros a month.

@jedaisoulJul 13.2012 — If you want an ad-free site I recommend (and use) Heart Internet Web hosting. They are UK based so may not be wholly relevant to you, but they are indicative of price. A starter-pro account costs £2.49/month plus £10 setup plus VAT (20&#37?. Each starter-pro account supports only one url but there are two ways around that:

  • 1. You can add other starter-pro accounts as you need them, and manage them together. Or...

  • 2. You can:

    o Give your main site a generic name (like "www.spiffinhost.org.uk" or "www.spiffinhost.eu")>

    o Set up a "master site" with links to the "sub-domains" (this is necessary for web-search bots to find them).

    o Set up "subdomains" in sub-folders like: "www.spiffinhost.eu/mysite/".

    o Call the home page in each subfolder "index.html", and they will work similar to separate url's.

  • You can indeed do both. E.g. I have a ".org.uk" URL for my "hobby" sites, and a ".co.uk" URL for work. Note: ".org.uk" URL's cost £2.99 per year (plus VAT), ".eu" costs £8.49 per year (plus VAT). In either case you have to pay two years at a time by credit card.

    I particularly like the fact that Heart lock the FTP access, making it more difficult for people to hack your site. You have to log in to Heart, unlock FTP access to YOUR site, then you can log in to your site's FTP account to upload new and amended web pages. The FTP auto-locks after an hour (in case you forget to lock it when you have finished).

    Anyway, I hope this gives you an idea of what to look for, and how to keep the cost down. By the way, my only connection with Heart is as a satisfied customer!!!

    @me_3authorJul 13.2012 — hi jedaisoul,

    I think these would do

    just a question ( it might sounds stupid to you but its just first time I have contact with web hosting ) if I have fully functional website on my HD and wanna upload it are there some tutorials etc?

    as I found only SiteDesigner which costs again and since I have my website already done more convenient will be just to place it on SPACE ?

    @jedaisoulJul 13.2012 — You need to use FTP, or a program that puts a friendly "point-and-click" front-end on FTP. I use raw FTP, but that's only because I'm used to it. To explain how to use it here would be too complex. If you search "FTP" on Wikipedia you will find some background info and a list of FTP commands. There is also a link to a comparison of FTP clients which may be more help...

    One thing I'd warn you of is that many web servers are case sensitive. If you have developed your site off-line under Windows, it is not case sensitive. So you can find that links and graphics that worked fine off-line may fail on-line. If so, check for missing or different capitalization of the file names. Good luck!
