MediaWiki re-install problems

Not sure if this is the best place for this question…

I installed MediaWiki on to linux (fedora) box and had some problems that meant having to remove it and then try to re-install (using YUM). Despite removing the database, deleting files (in var/ and usr/ directories) YUM insists MediaWiki is still installed.

Does anyone know who to either install using a different approach (would RPM do it?) or persuade YUM that I really have got rid of MediaWiki

Hope this makes sense to someone, at doesn’t mean a great deal to me and I’m a bit lost to be honest.
