Anti Aliasing Problem on Image Text

I’m using the following code, it works perfectly with anti aliasing if I do black on white, but white on black doesn’t anti alias. Any ideas?
function create_main_title($text,$output)
{
//creates a image handle
$im = imagecreatetruecolor( 320, 46);

$x = ’10’;
$y = ’30’;

$size = ’22’;

$almostblack = imagecolorallocate($im,254,254,254);
imagefill($im,0,0,$almostblack);

$black = imagecolorallocate($im,255,255,255);
imagecolortransparent($im,$almostblack);

imagettftext($im,$size,0,$x,$y,$black,”fonts/arialblk.ttf”,$text);

//now creates the image
imagepng( $im, $output);
}
