PHP Date Issues

I just can’t grasp generating dates in PHP.

Here’s all I want to do:

Grab a date from the database in this format: 2012-01-23

And turn it into this: January 23, 2012

I know the date format is F j, Y but I don’t know how to convert it. Anyone out there that can help? ?

@OctoberWindJan 24.2012 —
echo date("F j, Y", strtotime("2012-01-23"));
Use strtotime() to convert the date string into a UNIX timestamp, which you can then parse into the "F j, Y" format with the PHP date() function.

@ericatekkaJan 24.2012 — Or do it from SQL on-the-fly?

MySQL -
SELECT *,DATE_FORMAT(DATECOLUMN,'%M %d, %Y') FROM DB_NAME
Success!
