private attributes in chrome

Hi,
I am using private attributes and it works greate on IE, I just tested it on chrome and it apears not to be working.
How can I read my private attributes.
Example:

[code]
<script>
function f() {
alert(document.getElementById(“a”)._abc)
}
</script>
<div id=”a” _abc=”gilad”></div>
<button onClick=”f()”>click</button>
[/code]

in IE it shoes gilad in chrome undefined.

please assist,

Another thing. I think that attribute names can only begin with a letter, and I'm not sure but I don't think they can contain special characters, like underscore (_).

Only the standard HTML attributes are accessible as object properties. Any non-standard attributes need to be accessed via getAttribute.
