trying to remove .php from URL

Hi,
I’ve made numerous attempts, using .htaccess file to remove the .php ext from the URL but nothing is working. There’s lots of examples on the web about how to do it but none of it is working. When calling tech support at Register.com they refuse to help me.

The last one i tried was this –

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.php -f
RewriteRule ^{.*}$ $1.php

but it doesn’t work. does anyone here have any advice on this, thank you
