PHP site gets hung up, is it my hosting configuration?

I have a PHP based polling site [url]www.popconsensus.com[/url]. Every 10 questions or so, the site gets “hung up” and will not trigger the next question. Hitting the refresh button seldom helps.

I didn’t actually build the site, someone else did. My know how only extends as far as dealing with other WordPress sites that I maintain. My current hosting plan is through Hostgator. I have a dummy domain as the main account domain, and each of my 11 or so websites are add-on domains, including the PHP site in question.

Before I go out and hire a streamlining specialist to figure out this lag issue, I was wondering if anyone knew whether having my site as an add-on is what is causing the issue?

@DasherAug 15.2011 — I have several sites running as add-ons which also use PHP and have had no problems. Add-on sites are typically shared IP addresses not only for the add ons but the primary site too.
