Conditional Spacing in WordPress

Hello. I am working with a fairly complex template in WordPress. The template is set up to insert (by default) thumbnail images in post excerpts on a front page. The blog I’m building will not have photos most of the time. I need to edit the CSS so that, when there is no photo/thumbnail present, the text starts at a normal distance from the post headline. Right now, a big gap appears between the two because of the lack of pictures. You can see it here: inventingatherapy.com

I have tried to check padding and vertical alignment but for the life of me, I’m in over my head.

I am really hoping someone can help! Even though I paid a small amount of money for this template, the developer is refusing to help me. Thanks in advance to any CSS heros out there! ?
