Bg css ie 6 7 8

I have a black transparent background on my <header> for this site and it is not showing up in ie 6 7 8, really confused as to why.

Also if anyone has a great reference site for incorporating html5/css3 without breaking a site in ie I’d totally dig checking it out.

@aj_nscJun 22.2011 — IE <9 doesn't support HTML5 semantic elements, you'll need modernizr.

You'll also need to check out HTML5 boilerplate for the default CSS styles for HTML5 semantic elements to make them work (in conjunction with modernizr) cross browser - i.e. things like header, nav, article, section, footer, nav all need display: block; in the stylesheet for them to behave as such in IE <9.
