Hi I’m new and just fiddle with HTML. My site CastingDiversity.com used to show the normal info I wanted but now shows D O C T Y P E H T M L P U B L I C ” – / / W 3 C / / D T D H T M L 4 . 0 T r a n s i t i o n a l / / E N ” > < h t m l > < h e a d > < t i t l e . in the Google listing. How do I hide it ??
It is virtually identical to another site InternationalActress.com which remains OK. Did it get corrupted ?
@aj_nscJun 12.2011 — #Yes, it's "corrupted", both of them are, you say internationalactress.com remains ok...it doesn't it's not ok....it may be ok in IE, but in other browsers (and obviously to google bot as well) it fails miserably (try viewing them in Chrome or Firefox, or, well, anything other than IE)
Let this be a lesson to never make a webpage with a Microsoft Office product, as have obviously been done.
I have no idea why Microsoft Office whatever has given your document a doctype of html transitional yet obviously attempts to make use of namespaces.
Anyway, the only solution I can possibly think of that will help you is to stop making webpages in whatever Microsoft Product you are using and use some other WYSIWYG editor.
Thanks so much for looking into this. I use Firefox browser almost exclusively and use NVU , but just got Expression Web because it is supposed to be "good".
I may have edited it in that, I don't recall.
How can I fix this problem and what filetype should I save them as ?
Can I reedit it in NVU then save as some other file type, can I just delete that wording?
@tracknutJun 12.2011 — #Expression Web is good, I've been using it for years, and It doesn't put in all those MS classes, or at least I've never seen it do that.
@tracknutJun 12.2011 — #The home page is saved as a unicode file, which may not be a good start. I would get into expressions, make a "new" empty file, and paste the contents of your current file into it and then save it. That should hopefully correct the file type. Then yes, you should be able to correct all that odd MS stuff "just" by editing it to the right thing (which may be easier said than done).
@ToddQauthorJun 12.2011 — #I reedited in Expression Web, took out the junk at the top and tried it in Chrome and FFox, looks OK to me now. Thanks All for Your Help
@tracknutJun 12.2011 — #We may be looking at different things, but when I go to CastingDiversity.com, the validator is showing a bunch of errors including the file type error that is starting the whole cascade of issues. It's still there... did you try making a new blank file in Expressions and pasting in your code?
