Crazy ‘no input file specified’ headache

Hi All

I uploaded a fully working database site (made on my Mac and tested

on my local Apache server with no errors) and encountered a problem.

My landing PHP script executes fine, reads all its HTML in from
nominated files, and displays a start-up screen. HOWEVER, whenever
I choose an option on the screen which needs another file (such as a

text file) I get the ‘no input file specified’ on a blank page.

The paths to all my required files are correct (they work flawlessly on
my own server). I have even tried putting all the files in the same (top)

directory and changing the paths accordingly, but no joy.

It doesn’t appear to be a permissions issue, either, as even with every

conceivable thing chmod to 0777, the error is still there.

Mystified, but far from starry-eyed . . .

@BIOSTALLMay 24.2011 — Hi Chris,

Are you using a .htaccess by any chance to rewrite your URL's. If so I wrote a post a while back that sounds similar which you can find below:

I hope it's of some use.

Cheers,

@chrisecclesauthorMay 24.2011 — Thanks for the offer of help, BIOSTALL.

Unfortunately, placing your code in my .htaccess didn't solve

the problem. ;-(

My next move is to set up a script wherein PHP actually creates

the directories and necessary files, rather than my simply using

Transmit to move the thing to the server. Maybe . . . ?

I should add, before anyone jumps in to mention php.ini or any

form of messing with the Apache config, that I'm on a shared host

where I have no control over such system matters.

The really weird thing is that other PHP scripts I've used in past run

perfectly well on the same host !

Any more advice most welcome. TIA.

OK.

Time to eat very large segment of humble pie !

The error was in my code.

A cautionary tale to anyone saving and renaming files:

Script is named 'filetesting.php'

It puts together HTML which includes a <form> tag with

action="fileTesting.php"

I suspect not the first (or the last) time someone is driven

half to dementia by an uppercase "T".
