Detecting Flash and Changing the HTML if no Flash found

Hi,

I need a little bit of help. I work for a company called Best of the Best (www.botb.com). We use Flash countdown clocks to mark the end of our competitions. The issue we now have is that our clients are using mobile platforms more and more and as bloody Apple wont support flash (not fully anyway) we need the option to detect whether our users have flash and if not then replace the current <OBJECT>Blah Blah Parameters etc</OBJECT> with <DIV CLASS=”NON_FLASH_CONTAINER”>All other bits in middle</DIV>

Is this at all possible?

Thanks in advance
Andy

@rnd_meMay 09.2011 — since some can't use flash, but everyone can use html, wouldn't it make far more sense to code it once and use the technology everyone supports?

flash is good for games and videos on old browsers, but a countdown clock?

come on, that's just sad...

you might consider finding better devs who are versed in 21st century technology and standards.

a flash-based clock is a red flag indicator of ineptitude in my book.
