About how many words should I put in an anchor for SEO purposes?

I have a WordPress plugin that optionally places a link on the user’s blog back to my website. It’s currently used on thousands of blogs, creating 100,000+ backlinks for my site (and growing). The anchor text is very important. The text that I’m using right now is two words, is this too short? How many words do you recommend?

@linkskuauthorApr 03.2011 — Help, anyone? This is very important. The current anchor that I'm using is "social buttons", I might change it to "social bookmarking buttons".
