Java Space Invaders problem

I need a bit of help.
If you check this link out
http://artstream.ucsc.edu/film20c/Spring2003/Lectures/24.04.2003/SpaceInvaders/
and click on the file http://artstream.ucsc.edu/film20c/Spring2003/Lectures/24.04.2003/SpaceInvaders/javainvaders.html
you can play Space Invaders online.
But, when you download the whole directory to your hard drive, and click the HTML file it fails to load (says “Security exception blah blah”) & keep getting “Security exception” and “java.io.IOException: bad path C:Windows…..
A friend has downloaded the files and plays no problem on his hard drive
Any ideas why this is?

@unregisteredauthorDec 30.2003 — Thanks for replying!

The message that comes up is-

exception:com.ms.security. SecurityExceptionExMidway8080.loadsample):java.io.IOException:bad path:C..... (I cannot read beyond this as its blocked by part of the Internet Explorer frame at the bottom)

I think Midway 8080 is the manufacturer/name of the chipset that Space Invaders used in 1978 (and there is a file called Midway8080.class in the directory)

@oleragDec 30.2003 — And probably a method called "loadsample" in this class.

Your problem could be many things associated with Java

(not Javascript) and concerns attempting to download a

free, specialty applet from UC Santa Cruz's Dept of

Film and Digital Media.

For installation requirements and detailed operating

instructions, you should contact the individuals responsible

for deploying this game.

It looks like what you linked up to is a ftp site at this

University where students copy/paste there classroom

work/activity. If this is the case, I hope your in a A/B

student's path.

@unregisteredauthorDec 30.2003 — It seems that this java version is widely available, and each time the exact same files are assembled in one directory.

Eg- http://www.pagine70.com/hobby/2/

has the same set up.

How come I can load & play online but not from a directory on my C drive?

It just doesn't make any sense

Possibility could be that the program is accessing some resources from another webserver, which can cause an applet to throw a security breach error.

Don't they have instructions to install/redistribute this app?

Success!
