complex project: Interactive map – Guidance needed

Hi,

I have a complex project that i would like to do in jquery or ajax, I would like to get some guidance:

We have a csv file with many comments from each continent

1-There is a world map that is divided into continents

2-We need to load a csv file and show the comments on each contenent randomly in a loop with 4 seconds delay – the text needs to glide to the continent and the continents colour changes

3-if they move their mouse over a continent the loop stops. comments from the moused over continent is shown with the ability to view comments by having (Next and Previous) if they move their mouse off the continent then it should go back to loop showing random comments.

Is this possible, i need generall guidance.

Thanks in advance,

Hm. The way you exposed the problem show us from the beginning that you have poor knowledge regarding the client-side languages and techniques. JQuery is a JavaScript library (JavaScript is the base language of those libraries). But AJAX is a request (post-back) technique. Different animals. They don't exclude one each other.

Regarding your aim. AJAX is a must. It makes no difference if you will use the base language JavaScript codes or JQuery, Prototype, MooTools or any other JavaScript Library. Or Yahoo or Google JavaScript snippets. And HTML5 is recommended. But probably you need a server-side vector language as well, like PHP or ASP

Or you may use alternate solutions, like Silverlight or Flash/Flex.

@tedscoffeeMar 08.2011 — We did a similar project before and figured its easier to use flash map, because we do not need to show all the street level maps, cities etc. We just need to show the data for the major continents and countries. If you are interested you can check out these flash map samples which might be useful for you. Of course, some people don't like flash because they can't be viewed on iPhones, but that's another kind of request.

Well, it looks like you have simply bought an application Builder which did all the job. Sure, if knigh7 can afford, he could buy it as well (the free demo is watermarked).

I think that is a tool based on Flash/Flex. One of the solutions I have already mentioned.
