Get structured message from php to insert into mysql DB

Hi all,

This is question probably has a really simple solution. I have been searching for a solution on google and now I am trying here. Problem is I don’t know how to word my question.

Basically what I want to do is have a feature that allows a user to enter formatted text into a field and then upload it to a mysql database. Something like this very message box. I’m not too sure what you would call it.

Do you get a plugin or script or something similar to use? and where would I find this?

@markle976Jan 13.2011 — A message box that lets you enter formatted text is called a WYSIWYG textarea (What You See Is What You Get). They are created using JavaScript (there are many existing ones like CFEditor or TinyMCE). When you say upload into a db you really mean insert into a db; this would require a server-side script (like php, .net, or coldfusion).

TinyMCE has a general public license. Would this prevent me from being able to sell webpages containing its functionality? The page I'm busy with is for a client.

I'm just worried about conflicting with licenses.

@markle976Jan 13.2011 — They have an explanation of the license on their site (I think it is actually LGPL). I also think that you can call their support desk if you have a question about what constitutes fair use. You are probably OK if you are just using it on a client website; it's a bit trickier if you are trying to use it for a service site like thenewfacebook.com.
