Question on borders and table backgrounds

I have been doing a lot of research on “cutting edge” look visual groupings for tables. It seems as though the nicest results for that rounded, gradiented, and sharp look is with the background of a table to actually just be an image (PNG the best?).

My question is, that causes you to have to set a pixel width and height of the background to the image, which doesn’t really give browser/resolution variety.

What I’m trying to find out, is the table background best results through nice images???

@tracknutJan 13.2011 — You might show some examples of what you have in mind. In my experience, my tables are largely full of data, usually text, and having any kind of background other than some light solid color would seem to hurt readability. So in my case, no, I wouldn't be putting images as backgrounds to a table.
