I am doing an assignment for school and have to validate two different websites in strict format. I started out with about 12 errors and am now down to 6. However I cannot seem to get past that. If anyone could help or give me a few pointers for what I am missing it would be greatly appreciated!!

Here is the code for both websites that I have put together.

@146cruckstuhlauthorNov 27.2010 — Good Morning ?

I am required to validate two HTML pages for school with 1.0 strict validation. I did receive some help on fixing my code however when I attempted to validate, I ended up having more errors than before. Here is one of my pages and at the bottom, the errors the validation site says I have. Please help!

Validation Output: 8 Errors

  • 1. Error Line 5, Column 66: required attribute "content" not specified

    <meta http-equiv="Content-type content=text/html; charset=UTF-8"/>

    The attribute given above is required for an element that you've used, but you have omitted it. For instance, in most HTML and XHTML document types the "type" attribute is required on the "script" element and the "alt" attribute is required for the "img" element.

    Typical values for type are type="text/css" for <style> and type="text/javascript" for <script>.

  • 2. Error Line 6, Column 8: element "center" undefined

    <center>

    You have used the element named above in your document, but the document type you are using does not define an element of that name. This error is often caused by:

    * incorrect use of the "Strict" document type with a document that uses frames (e.g. you must use the "Frameset" document type to get the "<frameset>" element),

    *
    by using vendor proprietary extensions such as "<spacer>" or "<marquee>" (this is usually fixed by using CSS to achieve the desired effect instead).

    * by using upper-case tags in XHTML (in XHTML attributes and elements must be all lower-case).

  • 3. Error Line 10, Column 8: element "center" undefined

    <center>

  • 4. Error Line 27, Column 7: end tag for "center" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified

    </head>

    You may have neglected to close an element, or perhaps you meant to "self-close" an element, that is, ending it with "/>" instead of ">".

  • 5. Info Line 10, Column 1: start tag was here

    <center>

  • 6. Error Line 27, Column 7: end tag for "center" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified

    </head>

    You may have neglected to close an element, or perhaps you meant to "self-close" an element, that is, ending it with "/>" instead of ">".

  • 7. Info Line 6, Column 1: start tag was here

    <center>

  • 8. Error Line 27, Column 7: end tag for "head" which is not finished

    </head>

    Most likely, you nested tags and closed them in the wrong order. For example <p><em>...</p> is not acceptable, as <em> must be closed before <p>. Acceptable nesting is: <p><em>...</em></p>

    Another possibility is that you used an element which requires a child element that you did not include. Hence the parent element is "not finished", not complete. For instance, in HTML the <head> element must contain a <title> child element, lists require appropriate list items (<ul> and <ol> require <li>; <dl> requires <dt> and <dd>), and so on.

  • 9. Error Line 31, Column 12: there is no attribute "face"

    <font face="Bookman Old Style, Book Antiqua, Garamond"</font>

    You have used the attribute named above in your document, but the document type you are using does not support that attribute for this element. This error is often caused by incorrect use of the "Strict" document type with a document that uses frames (e.g. you must use the "Transitional" document type to get the "target" attribute), or by using vendor proprietary extensions such as "marginheight" (this is usually fixed by using CSS to achieve the desired effect instead).

    This error may also result if the element itself is not supported in the document type you are using, as an undefined element will have no supported attributes; in this case, see the element-undefined error message for further information.

    How to fix: check the spelling and case of the element and attribute, (Remember XHTML is all lower-case) and/or check that they are both allowed in the chosen document type, and/or use CSS instead of this attribute. If you received this error when using the <embed> element to incorporate flash media in a Web page, see the FAQ item on valid flash.

  • 10. Warning Line 31, Column 55: unclosed start-tag requires SHORTTAG YES

    <font face="Bookman Old Style, Book Antiqua, Garamond"</font>

    The construct <foo<bar> is valid in HTML (it is an example of the rather obscure “Shorttags” feature) but its use is not recommended. In most cases, this is a typo that you will want to fix. If you really want to use shorttags, be aware that they are not well implemented by browsers.

  • 11. Error Line 31, Column 55: element "font" undefined

    <font face="Bookman Old Style, Book Antiqua, Garamond"</font>

    @146cruckstuhlauthorNov 27.2010 — Good afternoon ?

    Thank you so much for responding. Unfortunately I have to validate this using 1.0 strict validation. I have been using http://validator.w3.org/check to check my coding and it says I still have 23 errors :0( do you know what It would be saying this? This HTML coding really is confusing for me, if you could give me any pointers or help again I would be so grateful. thank you again!!!
