AOL sucks (enough said?)

Well, to be fair, I’ve never used it. Heck, I haven’t even seen the bastard.

One of my customers is severely AOL depended. He doesn’t want to give up his AOL address, even though I’ve provided him with his domain ones. Does everything via AOL. Anyway, this is just a venting part of my post.

Here is a Question: do you have AOL somewhere so you can cross-do it? Should I bother activating it? Is there a “sniffer” that can detect AOL and pop some kind of message? Anyway, guide me, pls.

(
if I sound like an idiot Don’t laugh – consider that I’ve never touched it and don’t even know for sure what it is. I just know it sucks. Certain things you just don’t have to eat to know they are not going to agree with your organizm…)

@PeOfEoDec 18.2003 — it is its own browser and isp for dial up and now broad band in some areas. it does suck you are right about that. It is based on a ghecko browser, I do not know for sure the ns aol relationship but they seem to be partners in some areas because they share aim etc, but it has not progressed w/ mozilla etc. It sucks bretty hard.

@Aronya1Dec 18.2003 — Love the rant! It's right up there with Paul Jr's rant about FrontPage in another currently running thread. As far as the point of your post:

Umm... Huh? What is it you want to do?

I honestly don't know if it ever was based on Netscape, but I know it won't be in the future because AOL and MS agreed to a deal to where IE will be the backbone of the AOL browser. After the deal was done Netscape was pretty much declared dead. And yeah, AOL sucks big time. Their e-mail system is the worst I've ever seen.

@Robert_WellockDec 18.2003 — I've never heard anything good about Micro$oft's AOL Browser hybrid, and since AOL own Netscape Communications (which is basically dead) that is why you'll probably get some crossovers.

@Compguy_PeteDec 18.2003 — Give them their "Professional email adresses" however have those accounts forward to their AOL (ISP) email addy.

I hate nothing worse than seeing a great website and then seeing the contact email address being one for AOL.

AOL is internet with training wheels... end of story :rolleyes:

AOL is always going to be a player in the world of the internet, it's one area where MS will not be able to over take them. In relationship to MSN membership numbers.

@Dave_NIDec 18.2003 — I have to test my app in AOL Browser 8... is there a emulator out there without having to install the godforsaken thing?

Links to downlaods appreciated.

@PeOfEoDec 18.2003 — Keep in mind, ms is trying to fix their ie browser a bit, It will still handle scripts about the same but the word on the street is it will be able to handle css... more correctly, and will handle object tags like it is supposed to when 7 comes out. So if aol uses an ie based browser, it might end up being similar to how it is now in the ways it reads css. AOL sucks at it now from what I have seen so it cant get much worse right? (well if they combined it with ie6 maybe... but lets hope its more like an ie7, which lets hope is more like mozilla firebird, which is awesome)

@Compguy_PeteDec 19.2003 — Does that mean there is a Santa?

?
Copy linkTweet thisAlerts:
@PeOfEoDec 19.2003 — sure pete... why not? If there isn't a santa then who keeps eating the cookies I leave out?

@DariaauthorDec 19.2003 — Oh, guys, thanks, I needed this thread ?

Pete, yeah, I have the alias for the guy that forwards the email, at least website looks OK, however, he SENDS stuff only from AOL.

Anyway, to answer Aronya's question: I want to make sure that the website looks and functions in AOL (gee, I had no idea it's a browser in itself. Gah) Should I bother to look into it and make it compatible or should I tell people like that to suck it up :rolleyes: ?

P.S. Santa doesn't like cookies. Santa likes cheese!

Heheh, comercial:

Father to young daughter on christmas day, with loads of presents under the tree, including a car: "Those must've been some cookies you left santa."

Girl, staring at the presents: "I didn't leave him cookies, I left him cheese!"

@DariaauthorDec 19.2003 — Yep, I admit, I stole the theme from that commercial. Doesn't mean I don't believe it.

Cheese Rules! AOL still sucks!
Copy linkTweet thisAlerts:
@PeOfEoDec 19.2003 — new cheese version 9.0. You can now use cheese for broadband, browsing speeds up to 20 times faster then dial up. :rolleyes:

@Aronya1Dec 19.2003 — Introducing... Cheese XP! Where do you want to crash today?
Copy linkTweet thisAlerts:
@Paul_JrDec 19.2003 — LMFAO!!!

"New, Cheese version 10.0, Homogenized!"
Copy linkTweet thisAlerts:
@Aronya1Dec 19.2003 — Caution! Cheese 10.0, Homogenized is highly sensitive to heat and microwaves. Operating Cheese 10.0, Homogenized close to any heat source or inside of a microwave may result in degradation of performance, bubbling, running, and just plain causing a mess. However, Cheese 10.0, Homogenized is highly recommended for use on sandwiches, salads, and deli plates. Cheese 10.0, Homogenized should be kept in refrigeration when not in use. Furry bits may be cut off and discarded without voiding warranty. Be advised: Cheese 10.1, Bleu, is intended to have furry bits which should not be discarded. If you are still operating Cheese, 2.0, Limberger, you are probably single and living with your mother. Cheese 2.0, Limberger is no longer supported by DairySoft.

@PeOfEoDec 19.2003 — heh, A new age of compadability have begun! Ultra pasturised cheese 10.0 is hitting the shelves for lactos intolerant users. Now cheese can run on all platforms without causing diarea, gas, vomit, and stomach aches!

@modifier_guyDec 20.2003 — i used to use aol, and what i did was sign ont hen minimize the window and use IE it worked better and faster
Copy linkTweet thisAlerts:
@JustinAug 12.2004 — Ya thats what i do, start aol, then use explorer, or mozilla. Sometimes i even force aol to crash, and when it trys to restart, i stop it, so the modem is still on, but aol is not! ?

I Have aol, and my dad doesn't want anything else. Aol's e-mail system SUCKS! i get more spam on aol then on anyother emailaddress. and the sad thig is, i use the other emails on websites, and even have email links, and i get less spam. Aol also takes up 70% of bandwidth just idaling (well that a guess, but its up there). Also aol have so many prossesses that you can cut the main prossess (ctrl alt del) and aol will RESTART saying that there has been a problem!!

I HATE AOL!!!?

@DaveSWAug 12.2004 — Oh back on topic at last...

if you want to continue this cheesily hijacked thread maybe it should be in the coffee lounge...
