I work for a certain print and online publication. The one problem we have is other sites copying ad pasting our content to thier own websites or blogs. Wondering if theirs some way to allow a user to only to be able to copy/paste a certain character limit and then somehow add link to copied and pasted blurb?
Maybe theirs a way to use javascript to command their notepad to only allow a set number of characters….
MAybe theirs a service available…

outrageous solutions you could make all your text an image......?
The links winracer posted are not even close to being ways around it.
Encrypting the HTML source does nothing when the text is right in front of you on the browser for you to highlight. Likewise, who cares if you have some stupid no right click script installed when all I need to do is highlight the text and push CTRL+C.
There's no sensible solution to prevent this....but in terms of completely outrageous solutions you could make all your text an image......?
To: Ctierney and winracer - there is a famous saying: "The locks are made for honest people". Those who don't need that text and don't want to steal it, they will simply keep away and respect the copyright, regardless their skill in programming. Those who want to copy that text by all means, they will either have the knowledge, or they will hire people who know how to do that.
Wasting of time. Any piece of information published and visible on the Internet is a subject of copy/paste, a way or another. No way to prevent that, so far.
wished I could get more help or a least someone to tell me I am wasting my time

Note: I have experienced that "lock issue" when I was in the Army (at that time in my country all the youngsters were subjects of compulsory recruitment). Some of my brother in arms who were both wealthy and greedy, had often the surprise of suffering various small theft within their belongings, even locked (food, cigarettes...). For me, I didn't even have a lock on my belongings (cupboard or suitcase), as I used to shared all my goodies with my mates. You know what? No one dared to steal from me not even one cigarette, even there was no lock to prevent that. I have considered the lock as a supplementary stress factor for me. They knew that if I have enough, I will give anyone at will. If not, they really have respected my privacy.
Well, it is not quite the same thing, but I hope this will make you understand what I mean.
