Editable content converts addresses to absolute

I’ve been maintaining an IE web based editor that uses a DIV with the “contenteditable” property set to true. My problem is that IE seems determined to keep turning any links that have been entered in “HTML” mode into absolute links, which is no good as the location of the editor is not the same as the pages that it edits.

Does anyone know of a property that can be set to counteract this effect?
