find referring domain

hi guys i have a script that uses $_SERVER[‘HTTP_REFERER’ to find the referring domain, but it only seems to work if the user clicked on a link to visit my script.

so if i’m on google and instead of clicking on link, i instead type in the
link to come directly to my script i don’t get a referring url.

is it possible to tell what url the visitor was at before he typed in my url, or is it only possible when they click a link on the previous site that brings them to me?

it works fine as long as they clicked a link to visit my site, but if type in the address it won’t detect the page they came from.

@NogDogAug 30.2010 — Nope. (Besides, think about it, do you really want any web site you visit to be able to know what web page you were on right before you went to their web site? And even the HTTP_REFERER can be disabled by browser security settings and such)
