Does Googlebot follow links from gmail?

Hi all,

I have a client who noticed a bunch of googlebot traffic, hitting links to “unsubscribe” from a newsletter.

The interesting thing is, these links are custom built (with the user’s email incorporated) per copy of the newsletter.

Looking over the list, a few are @gmail.com addresses, but many are not (though they could be forwarded to gmail accounts).

My question is, does Google scan gmail messages for links, then feed those to its bots for indexing? If not, any other ideas how a bot could grab links that are published only in a newsletter?

Thanks,

-Jim

@Sabrina_Gage2Aug 31.2010 — I suppose that the mail-service will offer Google some information about the link out of email that Google can grap such kind of links.
