Google analytics?

Hi there, not sure where I should be asking about this, maybe someone could point me in the right direction if it’s not here?

We’ve been using google analytics for awhile now and recently we’re seeing strange behavior from two cities. These top two cities have 10x more visits than our 3rd place city, an average time of 2 seconds on the site, and 99%+ for new visits and bounce rate.

I’m not sure what to make of it, has anyone else encountered this type of behavior before?

@sunnydogJul 24.2010 — I have had Google Analytics, and have never encountered anything like this before. Maybe you should try posting something in the Google help forum.

@tracknutJul 24.2010 — I've run into this situation twice before, and both times it was someone who had hot-linked to an image on my site. See if you can spot where the hits are referred from, go to that site, and see what's up.

If it isn't specific sites, but generically as you say "cities", then I have no idea what's going on ?

@RhevesauthorJul 26.2010 — Thanks, our site is affiliated with several schools so I wouldn't be surprised if one or two of them were hotlinking an image. It's all direct traffic however, so I can't see where it's referring from, any idea how to determine that?
