easiest way for client to update site without CMS

Hi,

a friend has asked me to make a website for him. i could easily make one in HTML. no problem. BUT once i have done it I don’t want him to bother me with updates! I don’t want to spend time (i don’t get paid!) trying to figure out CMS, etc, the guy will only needs to update the NEWS section once in a while, with text and picts i guess…

i was going to use WordPress. is it THAT easy to use or i need to spend a bit of time figuring out how to customize the themes? (i’ve been told it’s like using .PHP pretty much).

or is there any easy way to update just a portion of text, maybe using XML?

sorry I’m more of a designer than developer!!!

cheers

@tirnaJul 22.2010 — Unless your friend knows at least some basic html then afaik the only option you have is build some sort of simple CMS to update just the relevant bits of the site.

It could be as siimple (if you are familiar with something like php and databases) as giving him a form which prompts him for some text and optional images and then using a server side script like php to store his entered content in a database and then get the content for the editable bits of the website from the database to send to the browser when requested by a user.

@bblaisNov 30.2014 — Hi All,

I realize this thread is a bit dated, but for anyone still looking for how to do this, you might want to check out sitemailcms.com.

It allows your clients to easily update their website by simply sending an email.

@maydayanekJul 12.2016 — Minorit is answer to your question. I am using that for simple websites and your client can edit the content directly on the website. You don't need nothing to do than give them FTP access.
