Can I use $_FILE[][] as a string?

For example:
$path = “http://linksku.com/wp-content/upload/wp-post-thumbnail/” . $_FILES[“file”][“name”];
move_uploaded_file($_FILES[“file”][“tmp_name”], $path);
or
$num = 1;
while (file_exists(“http://linksku.com/wp-content/upload/” . $_FILES[“file”][“name”]))
{
if ($num > 1)
$regex = ‘/’.$num.’$/’;
$num = $num + 1;
if ($num > 1)
$_FILES[“file”][“name”] = preg_replace($regex,”,$_FILES[“file”][“name”]);
$_FILES[“file”][“name”] = $_FILES[“file”][“name”].$num;
}
@adamouJul 20.2010 — yeah of course you can, since $_FILES['file']['name'] is a string after all
