Possible to extend select element methods?

I’d like to be able to extend the select element so I can use the following syntax:
select.load = function (data) {…};
my_select_element.load(data);
Instead I have to do the following (the horror…):
function load_select_element(select, data) {…}
load_select_element(my_select_element, data);
It’s a bit… 80’s, if you ask me.

Can I extend the properties of the select element, like the first example?

Cheers,
-Brendan

@KorJun 23.2010 — You may use the prototype object/property to create custom methods for an element:
