I’m new to this forum and registered because I’d like to post an ongoing job opportunity for a web developer / designer. Is there a place on this forum that I can post this kind of information?
You could though try www.rentacoder.com. You could get any project done there for under 30$ in under a week. (makes me wonder how there could still be traditional developer jobs out there... maybe there arent any...)

Exactly on the money. Even on those sites the good developers charge as much as they do in the 'real world'. So you have the choice of getting someone from india, paying pennies and taking a gamble or going with a well respected developer from your own country and paying the right amount. In all fairness I have never and will never use sites like this simply for the fact that I believe bidding against people in India and other places makes some people think that those are the prices they should be paying for programmers - and I didn't spend all the years I have learning this stuff just to charge £10 an hour. But..whatever floats your boat i guess =)

I believe this is the common complaint around the world isn't it? Before Asian developers make any mark on Earth, Europe and US engage the services of East European developers like Russia, Bulgaria, Hungary etc etc.
With the rise of Asia, you have your India and China etc etc. Competition is here to stay and it is all up to the employers who will decide who they want to employ. Quality of work is an important factor besides the cost factor so I believe any wise employers will know and employ accordingly.

Oh dont get me wrong, I dont mind the competition and fair play to them. I just dont want people to start categorizing all developers in the same way and expect people in the UK and USA etc to charge as much as the Asian devs. In all honesty I think asian devs (because some of them ARE good) should charge as much as everyone else and then we wouldnt have this problem at all (and they would be rich as hell where they are xD )
