I don't understand what you are trying to do...

  • 1. Where do the list of previously inputted values come from?

  • 2. Do you mean "textfield" to be "text" box or "textarea"?

  • 3. When is the list completed to know when to start using it as the list?

  • 4. How do you want to enable the list for selection after having been disabled?

  • 5. Do you have a HTML example (without the JS) of what you are trying to do?

I'm assuming he is referring to the browser specific feature of autofilling in results and/or listing previously entered values for a particular html form text input. Like how firefox will give suggestions to me as i type into the site search on my site. These values are not coming from any type of ajax system, but rather the browser suggesting values that i had previously entered.
