Unlike the ubiquitous Web browsers, there are quite a few major camps for mobile application development. It is quite fragmented.
We have Windoze Mobile, iPhone, Android, SymbianOS, RIM (aka Research-In-Motion) and a few others. Different OSes for the mobile phone cause headache for a mobile application developer.
Recently I learn Android SDK but my application can only run on Android phones. Now I gotta re-learn JavaFX in the hope to have the same application run on Windoze Mobile and Symbian OS. Then if I want RIM I gotta re-learn RIM SDK and if I want iPhone, gotta re-learn iPhone SDK. This does not include some of the SDK may need developer licenses!!!
This is getting crazy! Any community effort to standardize on ONE SDK so a mobile developer develop ONCE and it is able to run everywhere? I believe JavaFX is going to that direction but I wonder how will Android and Apple be co-operative.
A few years back I was still playing with JavaME but somehow I don’t find it catch on fire and now with iPhone and Android, the fire is back and somehow I feel JavaFX has roots from JavaME.
I believe we are witnessing the early era of mobile application development. Standardization one [B]ONE SDK
