problem with javascript sequence

I have been trying to figure out a small problem for a while now with no success.

I have a script that is supposed to generate a key number to any person added to the system. This key is correctly generated if the user selects the type of account they are using.

The problem is if the user uses the default account tag, the javascript does not run and no key is generated. the key needs to be visible on page load.

when i run:

[CODE]<script>
document.getElementById(‘sellabel’).focus()
alert (document.getElementById(‘sellabel’).value)
</script>[/CODE]

the selected tag displays correctly. but i need the page to run :

[CODE]setsort(document.getElementById(‘sellabel’).value)[/CODE]

when the page loads so that a value is always present. does anyone know how to do this?
