Screen Res. Compat. Issues

Hey there. This is a bit of a long question but it still needs responses ?

I’m using Dreamweaver MX and Photoshop 6. To make my background, I used photoshop with an image size of 800 x 600 (my screen resolution). I then used dreamweaver to put my content over top of it and align it all.

Things worked just fine until i realized that everything goes out of line on 1024 x 768 screen resolutions as well as 640 x 480. A

ttached is the background image file. The website is www.wildduckpatrol.tk (dont ask, I’m 13 and making a site for scouts, i have a fair bit of design experience).

I’ve found a Javascript that redirects on screen res. but I don’t exactly feel like making a copy of my site for each kind of res. which would involve aligning it every time i update.

By keeping the basic layout the same, Is there a way to ensure total compatibilty?

Thank you,

Kevin

P.S. Feel free to look @ my source if need be for suggestions.

@jeff_archer7Dec 04.2003 — I had a similar problem....

what i did was selected no background.... then on the page i put a table which was the size of the res i wanted.... then in the background of the table I put my pic..... IMPORTANT when you place the table do not size it by percentage size it by pixles.... also select NO-Wrap in the table properties... when you are typing text(content) when you get to the edge of the screen hold down shift and hit enter.... this will stop the No-wrap setting from re-adjusting size of frame.... if you do not use no-wrap the browser size will re-adjust everything.....

look at my site you will see what i mean

@Paul_JrDec 04.2003 — First, I would suggest slicing that background image up and using the particular parts as <div> backgrounds, and the <div>s will hold your content.

@spufiDec 04.2003 — Well, there seems to be a number of issues going on here. One, the frameset that is at the link you posted, have the frames point to these links.

You have a frame set point to a middle site and I don't see why you have to. Does your host force you to use frames? I don't see any reason that you have to.

<%@LANGUAGE="JAVASCRIPT" CODEPAGE="1252"%>

That should not be the first line in your code. I doubt it should be on your page at all.

For some reason I don't see any content in terms of text. A view source shows you do have text, I'm just not seeing it. Oh wait, in your one <script> tag you have <!-- which starts a block of comment code, but you don't end it with --> and so most of the code that follows is commented out.

Since you use some CSS, use more of it. Certainly to get rid of those font tags and some other stuff. I really don't see the point in using the <kbd> and <site> tags because you are really using them outside of their purpose.

For kicks you should look at your site in something besides IE. Oh, like Mozilla. ?

In all honesty, your layout is going to force your layout into a small little area when you really should save yourself the pain and let it breathe at least some. I would bare minimum take out the bottom part of your two boxes and this would free up both of those sections to let text go beyond the boxes. This also means you could get rid of the overflow which doesn't work they way you have it in Mozilla.

@jeff_archer7Dec 04.2003 — Lose the frames all together

@Paul_JrDec 04.2003 — Uhm... from what I could see, he doesn't use frames...

His page is a part of a frame set, but that's his hosting's work. Some stupid advert. at the top or sumdumthing...

@CTemplemanDec 04.2003 — What you can possibly do is define seperate <div> areas within a preset table with the background set in the table.

Then if you center the table it will always display the same as the <div> areas will move with the table.
