how does google page fade on

I have noticed that recently google’s page fades on, but I was unaware that html could fade;

any thoughts,

when I go to:

msdn's opacity definition, it does not mention where the opacity is defined ( on the other hand it says that the [B]DIV element[/B] is defined via [I]"This object is defined in HTML 3.2 World Wide Web link and is defined in World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Document Object Model (DOM) Level 1 World Wide Web link."[/I] ).

when I test jquery's fadeTo function, which implements .style.opacity, it works in all my windows browsers;

any insights please;
