minor adjustment of divs using in line style tags.

I have been working on a site for quite sometime and have an external style sheet attached with the divs and classes for the common elements just like normal. Sometimes though just one div block needs a minor adjustment in width or height or style, so I adjust it with an inline style tag despite having the div already in the external style sheet. Is this an acceptable way to use css? Obviously it works but I am also wondering if there is a preferred method. Any guidance would be appreciated.

@KDLAJan 14.2010 — Your method is fine. What I do, though, is assign a class also for the minor adjustments, just in case I need to use that setting for more than one div. Just make sure it follows the ID style in the stylesheet, rather than preceding it. Else, the ID settings will override it.

@dcmxauthorJan 14.2010 — thanks for the input. After searching through the forum I found that losing the height on my div styles resolved quite a few problems, Thanks again!
