RegExp match returns an array of length 2

Hi All

Can someone explain to me why I get an array containing [xml, xml]
str = ‘index.xml’
re = RegExp( /([^s./]+)$/ ) ;
str.match(re) // -> [xml, xml]
I only need xml, not an array, and especially not [xml, xml] ?

thnx a lot
LuCa

Update: thnx mrhoo, thats clear now!

@mrhooJan 11.2010 — The parentheses are used to separate parts of a match.

The match[0] of a nonglobal match holds everything that matched,

the rest of the array contains the parenthesised parts that matched, including the first.

Lose the parentheses, or return str.match(re)[0]

Success!
