Help Please… I have a problem with my php.ini file

Houston we have a problem!

I have been trying to upload images using wordpress to my site which is hosted on a shared account on GoDaddy and have been receiving an error which states that the file is empty or there may be an error in my php.ini file. After searching around I learned I could edit my php.ini file, but I have no earthly idea how to edit the file. It only contains 1 line in the file rg_emulation = off. And I have no clue what to do. If you can help me please do so it would be greatly appreciated. As you can probably tell I am a rookie and don’t have a clue how to fix this.

Thanks,

Fakshon

@designer4lifeJan 03.2010 — Hi,

Is your website hosted on a share server or dedicated server?

@FakshonauthorJan 03.2010 — This is on a shared server. Luckily GoDaddy allows me to edit the php.ini file, however I am lacking the knowledge on what to change or add to the php.ini file. I know how to get the file and how to make changes, but I am not sure what exactly I need to do to make my websites work again. They were working a few weeks ago, and now they are all messed up.

Any advise or help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Fakshon

@LetmeinJan 03.2010 — I dont have experience with GoDaddy but I dont think they let you change the full proper php.ini file on a shared server, its probably just a cut down version of it, which just gets appended onto the proper one or something like that... I have no idea so I might be completely wrong...

However if you havent changed anything then it should still be working, I think the problem could be something else, like low disk space allowance or anything like that... If there is nothing you have modified, then before you start making changes to site code and to php.ini and other things then please ask GoDaddy support first, they might have a problem or they might have made some changes at their end that could stop things from working, I dont know if wordpress uses imagemagik which is I think in the php.ini file (cant remember) anyway something they have changed could stop it from working at the very least they should be able to restore the php.ini file for you ?

@criterion9Jan 03.2010 — You can use phpinfo() to find out what settings are currently in effect for your PHP settings. I would look for the GD functions being active since many third party package rely on that. Also, if I'm remembering correctly I once had a client hosted on GoDaddy and their PHP version had defaulted to PHP4 and I'm sure you would probably need PHP5 to run most modern applications (including fully featured wordpress).
