User Submission Websites

I have an idea for a website that I’d like to create. I would like to be able to have users post information onto the website examples:

textsfromlastnight.com
fmylife.com

I’m not sure how to go about it, I’d love it if there were an easy solution like WordPress. But if there isn’t, how should I start? I don’t mind teaching myself how to do it, but I don’t know where to start. I have a little experience with HTML, and I’ve used Dreamweaver / Kompozer to create sites before ( basic sites ).

Any help would be appreciated, I just need an kick in the right directions.
