Sliding image gallery

I’m looking to make an image gallery that has a sliding affect, where’s what I’m looking to do:
-Slide horizontally right to left
-one large image at a time with no thumbnails
-a menu at the bottom right of the image that allows for previous, 1, 2, 3, and next buttons
-a continuous loop once the last image is shown

I’m not sure where to start, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m not looking for someone to lay out the code for me, just some advice or thoughts on good tutorials or demonstartions or anything that might give me some direction.

I used propotype-carousel for the job, as it is well documented and works in any browser.
