Opera won’t do proper popups

This is probably more an Opera configuration problem than a Javascript one, but I simply can’t manage to produce a proper popup with window.open in Opera (9.63). I have allowed all popups, but the window always opens like a page accessed through a link (I can get back to the parent window by using the back button).

Any suggestion how to get a proper popup in Opera?

the behaviour of Opera appears actually to be inconsistent here:

what I reported above was the behaviour on my computer at work yesterday; I then tested it yesterday evening on my home computer (also with Opera 9.63), and there the popup opened normally on the first attempt, but the subsequent attempts resulted also just in an apparent page change as described above.

Now today on my work computer the popups suddenly open normally as a popup would.
