Problem with formatting of page name

Hi, I am a novice web builder and desperate for some help. ?

When I add a page to an existing website, as soon as I upload it, there are lots of 20% signs being added. For eg. I saved the page, named “CCTV Info and Venues”. Once it was showing online, it comes up as “CCTV%20Info%20and%20Venues.htm” How do I get rid of all the percentage marks and why do they appear?

Any help will be much appreciated!!

@svidgenDec 10.2009 — [B]%20[/B] is just a URL-encoded space. Folks typically use underscores (_) in place of spaces to avoid seeing [B]%20[/B]'s in their URLs (also for reasons of tradition, I think--old OS's not being able to have spaces in filenames). Is this causing usability issues for you? What software are you using to add these pages?

I started with microsoft publisher 2007, but am using Microsoft Expression Web 2 now. I thought that besides looking unprofessional, those percentages could influence your google ranking. When I uploaded the first time, I got ranking on the bottom of the first page. I then created a sitemap, played with the meta tags and added more content and lost a whole page in ranking...am bottom second page now :eek: All I can think of is that I added a few location pages and threw a bit of seo spam in it. Maybe I am being penalised for that and should remove those pages again?? I have seen worse spam on other high ranking pages though. Also, instead of my homepage, my FAQ page is the page google chooses to show.
