Jquery from id to element ??

May this be a trivial question, the thing is that I’m already too tired…
I have the ID of an element and I would like to know which position does it occupies in a list, I mean:
<ul>
<li id=”1″>
item1
<ul>
<li id=”1-1″>
item1-1
</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li id=”2″>
item2
</li>
</ul>
Let’s say I have $(‘#1-1’), how can I get to know that this is a $(‘ul li ul li’)??

@PerfidusauthorNov 26.2009 — As far as I already know that it can be "ul li" or "ul li ul li" a working approach is:
if($('#1-1').is('ul li ul li'))
{

}
Success!
