Google hasn’t indexed my site for over two weeks

Hi all,

I am new to this forum. I need help. I created new directory that I loaded PDF files on my site at http://www.thecre.com/comment/PDF/MMS-2008 and I want to use google custom search to search these PDF files. So how can I get google to index or crawl my site especially this new directory. Of course my site domain address is www.thecre.com

Thanks

@CoyotelabOct 30.2009 — create xml sitemap: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/

submit that sitemap in Google webmaster tool: www.google.com/webmasters/tools/

@rnd_meOct 30.2009 — now that you've published a link, it shouldn't take too long.

are there publicly-accessible links to each of the pdf files?

if not, how would google find them?

make a site index page, link from your front page, that links to every file you want google to index.

@robert_mimauthorNov 02.2009 — Thank you all for all your help. I created sitemap. So now Google has indexed 16 PDF files out of 325 or so.

Fly1919, what do you mean by PDF files linked to front page. My PDF files are in the following directory www.thecre.com/comment/PDF/MMS-2008. So does that mean that I have to move them to www.thecre.com

Please advise.

@rnd_meNov 03.2009 — google spiders links, so if something is linked from a page that is linked from your homepage, you are fine.

It can be a link from a link from a link from a link from your homepage....

nobody, i repeat nobody throws all their site's links on the landing page...

@opifexNov 03.2009 — You can use target key words to boost the rank in Yahoo, Google and MS Bing, which will increase product foresight . In order to improve the visibility of your main website in Yahoo, Google and some other search engines. you need create a “Doorway” page for each of keywords, of course ,determine 2-3 main keywords and 3-6 supported keywords firstly.
B*S* - "Doorway" === "Blackhat" and is penalized by ALL search engines.

I have no idea where all this tripe is coming from recently, but there are several "new" posters who appear to be tag-teaming these "SEO" themes and sometimes pointing to a "SEO service."

Here is a valid SEO reference... Google's SEO Help Page with a link to their SEO Starter Guide in PDF format. Download it and use it--- let the "nouveau SEO gurus" eat keyword-stuffed doorway pages.

and... content is king! Do it the right way!

oh... a nice shortlist of do's and don'ts

No matter how many keywords you use it doesn't matter. Content is more important.

for google, incoming links are more important than content or keywords...

hmmm.... interesting dilemma.

I have several directories for "vacation locations" that have less than 10 incoming links each... (really probably less than 5) and with a minimum of 200 to 300 links out (like a directory does) and these sites show page ONE in google, yahoo and msn for a lot of key words and have a nice volume of traffic. why??? because the content is there and the sites are well designed... except for one that is a mess that I inherited and still haven't fixed apart from the content.

Sorry, but "page rank" never did mean all that much except to people trying to sell you links and play "SEO" games.
Organic or word-of-mouth buzz is what helps build your site's reputation with both users and Google, and it rarely comes without quality content.
Avoid:

• spamming link requests out to all sites related to your topic area

• purchasing links from another site with the aim of getting PageRank instead of traffic

But what would Google know about search engines anyway? There's also a bit of a guide to help you detect "SEO scammers" on the help page noted earlier.

I'm not saying content doesn't matter, it certainly does affect your placement. I just think links matter a LOT more, especially good links.

Don't forget "miserable failure".

That alone proves that content is not google's largest criterion!

Yes, google tweaked their methods to prevent/filter bombing, but they certainly didn't scrap the fundamental PageRank technology that enabled bombs in the first place.

Can i please see the link that has less than 10 incomings, but #1 placement on a common keyword?

it sounds an anomaly to me if it's true; it certainly would make me question some assumptions i've made about how the world works....

@opifexNov 03.2009 — OK, I'll give you the worst one (the new design is ready! just haven't gotten around to updating)... last i checked it was PR2, and that is probably high... zihuatanejo.com.mx... English and Spanish keywords for finding a town and things in a town.

Was taken over several years ago and not really attended to except for filling in the image alts, adding a little bit of valid content, adjusting the nav a little and getting rid of the worse errors (there are still a lot of errors). Any external links to the site are purely accidental, real visit count is anywhere between 800 and 1500 unique visitors per day and the site makes money.

Thanks for making me take a look... problem with the server, but the site is working for the most part... (php isn't working???? curious. need to fix this... banner rotation and contact forms won't work at the moment)

i think this site only proves my point:
Results 1 - 100 of about 10,600 for linkto:zihuatanejo.com.mx.
it's got thousands of incoming links, just like i predicted...

helps if you use the correct query--- linkto: doesn't exist
link:

The query [link:] will list webpages that have links to the specified webpage. For instance, [link:www.google.com] will list webpages that have links pointing to the Google homepage. Note there can be no space between the "link:" and the web page url.
http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/operators.html

Your search - link:zihuatanejo.com.mx - did not match any documents.
But in the WebMasters Tools it does show that there are now a whopping 18 external links... not thousands by any means!

yes, my bad, apologies, and thanks for the correction.
Results 1 - 10 of about 17,300 for link:zihuatanejo.com.mx.
the link: feature does seem a little screwy.

i think "link:" might count only HTML <A> links, but pagerank uses found URLs as well, so that could explain the difference.

@opifexNov 05.2009 — it 's not your business , I think .

are you a professor ? if Yes ,maybe you can say that .but I don't think professor could make others shut up .

Actually I do teach programming and web development at a state technical university and at a private university. I also own an internet services company here in Mexico.

So, I make it MY business that people get correct information whenever possible... and here in this forum that assistance is free of charge. You won't find a link to my businesses here or in any other forum.

These forums are not a place to do business. At least that's my opinion and also part of the rules of the forum.

@lukazNov 05.2009 — On the point of seo, I am using rewrite in htaccess so my urls are search engine friendly, however this means that people can view www.mysite.xxx/ or www.mysite.xxx/index.php which are the same page, so will google penalise me for duplicate content? its not that I am trying to get duplicate info, both pages are technically the same file, just different urls.
