Rounded Corners, Border-Collapse Causes Mismatched Borders

I’m rounding the corners of some of my HTML elements and border-collapse: collapse; caused a problem with the rounded corners, that is they remain squared off. Changing the border-collapse to “separate” solves the problem (border-collapse: collapse; – squared off borders), but it also causes another problem (border-collapse: separate; – thicker borders). border-collapse: collapse; is being applied to all tables.
