Web Traffic Statistics

I assume that are are not any php functions to tell you how many hits, visits, etc a page has had. I have searched google and all I can find are software packages to download which will monitor the traffic of your site.

I would rather do it myself and have all the information available to me so I can display it on my CMS. Is this even possible?

Thanks in advance,

Ben

@criterion9Oct 07.2009 — You can use php to parse the log files from the web server. The best option is to use a pre-built package that allows you to track that information such as awstats or the like.

@MindzaiOct 07.2009 — I would suggest Google Analytics. As well as being excellent in and of itself, it also has a great API which you can use to display stats if you so desire. AWStats is pretty crappy in comparison IMO, it only gives you very basic info.
